R&D Scientist

The R&D-department of Elkem Foundry Products is located in Kristiansand, and consists of a team of 5 persons. The R&D-department carries out product development on additives for the steel and cast iron industry.

Areas of responsibility:

Project management of short, medium and long term research projects
Responsible for technology and competitive activities monitoring on relevant products and processes
Responsible for defining, in agreement with the management, medium and long term research areas in order to help the division to be a technology leader now and in the future in accordance with the strategic targets of the division
Be updated on the latest advances in relevant research fields

Lead medium and long term research within the division
Responsible for defining the scope of research projects, internal and/or in cooperation with external partners as for examples universities and research institutes
Responsible for project planning, execution, and reporting, and making sure agreed budgets and timelines are followed for the assigned projects
Ensure that projects assigned are delivering high quality work

Highly contribute to the innovation process of the division and help the division to achieve its strategic goals


PhD degree within metallurgy, material science, inorganic chemistry, material physics, thermodynamics or related field.
Project management education
Experience in cast iron or steel
Good R&D-project management skills
Good communication and analytical skills
Ability to work independently
Scientific rigor
Self-motivated, structured, creative
Team-player

The position is part of the R&D-team in Kristiansand, Elkem Foundry Products Division, and reports to the R&D-manager of Elkem Foundry Products Division
