Pre-programmed universal Infrared (‘IR’) and radio frequency (‘RF’) remote controls that are sold to subscription broadcasting providers (Cable, Satellite and IPTV), OEM, retailers and private label customers.

AV accessories sold, directly and indirectly, to consumers In the team, located in Enschede (The Netherlands), our client has a career opportunity for a Mechanical Lead Engineer (MLE).

Based on new project product specs and design input received from customers, the MLE will perform design reviews, identify, validate, and apply new materials and innovative decorative finish technologies into the products setting them apart from their competition. The MLE will support the Sales Team and Application Engineering during RFQ proposals and new product development. The MLE will actively contribute toward the evolution of the products.

The Mechanical Lead Engineer works in a cross functional team of Global ID, Electrical Engineering and Program Management.  The MLE is the liaison between the European office in Enschede and the Mechanical Engineering department in the US as well as the Mechanical Design Team in China.

The position requires travelling on an international level (EU, US, China). The MLE reports to the Sr. Director of Mechanical Engineering in the US with daily tasks coming from the Product Team in Europe.

Main tasks & responsibilities:
Participates in aligning product and mechanical roadmaps to secure IP where possible.

Evaluates new remote designs and provides feedback on Design For Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Refurbishment during ideation and realization phases of the product development process with Product Management and Global ID teams.

Quickly assimilate and refines mechanical designs, applies design integration and problem solving skills in a fast paced development environment.

Will prepare evaluation comments for off tool trial samples.

Will communicate with factory QA and US Engineering teams for product improvement recommendations.

Responsible for product trouble shooting and design feedback on new product samples during development stages.

Will provide Mechanical technical leadership for all Europe projects.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Role requirements:
Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

7-10 years’ experience in ME design in an electro-mechanical environment; remote control designs or mobile phone development is a plus.

Design experience with plastic injection molding, rubber keypad design.

Experience with analysis, DVT testing, and release into production of consumer electronics products.

Experience in evaluating and qualifying Mechanical Part supplier capabilities particularly with injection molded plastics and compression molded rubber.

Solid understanding of design and testing philosophies and methods.

Good communication skills in English.

Able to work within a cross-functional team environment.

Excellent knowledge and use of Pro Engineer Creo 2.0 and Windchill.
