Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, South Island

Pulse International is looking for a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist for a 181-bed teaching hospital in the South Island.

Job description:

The hospital, rebuilt in 2004, is a state-of-the-art facility providing healthcare to a population of 107,000 over a wide geographical area. It’s equipped with the latest in PACS, digital radiology, MRI, CT and ISOFT patient management system.

There are approximately 1400 births per year at the hospital and a further 100-200 in the rural areas. The department consists of a 14 room maternity unit with 4 delivery rooms, a level two, 5 cot neonatal unit and a dedicated Woman's Health unit. The service is supported by a team of experienced midwives, obstetric, gynaecology and colposcopy nurses.

You will be expected to work an average of 50 hours per week. This will include participation in the on call roster, routine obstetrics, routine gynaecology and outpatient clinics in the surrounding area. The successful candidate will also be required to undertake regular colposcopy clinics.

There are daily obstetric tutorials and weekly teaching sessions. The department is accredited for O&G training by RANZCOG and is affiliated to the Dunedin School of Medicine. The hospital also has excellent links to the nearest tertiary centre at Dunedin.

This area of the South Island offers a wide range of recreational activities. It is home to two of New Zealand's national parks offering superb hiking and scenery, whilst internationally acclaimed fishing and a wide range of other outdoor pursuits are also available. Five top New Zealand snowboarding/skiing destinations are also within easy driving distance.

Candidates should have completed their specialist training and be eligible for vocational registration with Medical Council of New Zealand. The post offers an attractive remuneration package, relocation assistance and CME allowance.
