Biomass Trade Originator

Statkraft has been active in the UK since 2003. We develop, own and operate renewable power production facilities, and are also involved in the trading and origination of power, gas, biomass and renewable certificates from our own projects and those of third parties. We have grown to be a significant UK market participant in trading and origination.

We established our presence in the global physical biomass trading market in 2012. You can see details of our business here: Looking forward we are expanding our biomass trading activity into the Baltics, Iberia, N America and Brazil, and using our experience of energy generation from biomass in Norway and Sweden.

For our office in London we are currently offering a 2 year contract to complement the existing Biomass Team within Trading & Origination. The candidate will gain a deep insight into the pricing, structuring, portfolio management, and operational activities. The role offers a lot of opportunities to actively contribute to the growth of the business.

Your role:

Identify and support the team in order to seize opportunistic trades that are P&L positive
Originate new sources of biomass (wood pellets, wood chips, and agribulks) and new relationships with key customers.
Create and negotiate trade-confirmation documents to lock in P&L at the earliest opportunity
Create and maintain our Customer and Supplier Database
Maintain awareness of the nature, risks and values from the “green electricity certificate” markets across Europe
Work with the internal support functions (e.g. Legal, Tax, Accounting, Safety) to finalise the legal contract documentation that will be used to execute trades.
Ensure awareness Statkraft’s emphasis on safety
Support other team members during the process of negotiating and execution of the biomass purchase agreement, and loading port logistics agreements, the freight agreements, and the biomass sale agreements and any discharge port agreements.
Respond promptly to external and internal requests for operational support during the physical movement of biomass.
Maintain and improve the business systems and documents to ensure continuous improvement

Your profile:
University / Master Degree in Business Administration or other relevant disciplines
3 – 5 years relevant working experience preferably within biomass origination and / or energy
Computer literate in Microsoft packages and IT – systems (Sharepoint, CRM packages)
High degree of personal and team time-management and prioritisation
Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
Strong analytical and problem solving abilities and a self-driven individual with a
Hands-on person with a trader’s mind set
Efficient communicator with very good command of English, both oral and written – other languages a big advantage
